Optical Measurement Technology

Contact: Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Paßmann

For non-intrusive investigation of flow fields, the Chair of Hydraulic Flow Machines is equipped with modern optical measurement technology. Below is an overview of the available measurement methods and hardware equipment.

Available Methods:
  • Planar PIV – Determination of 2D flow vectors in a plane.
  • Stereo-PIV – Determination of 3D flow vectors in a plane.
  • Interferometric Mie Imaging (IMI)
  • Dantec LDA System
  • Shadow and Schlieren Photography – Various setups are possible, such as Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS) or classical Schlieren photography (z-Type setup).
  • Flow Visualization using smoke filament visualization or surface dye coatings.
Hardware:

Dual-Image Cameras:

  • LaVision Imager Pro SX 5M – 3 units
